Many Chinese expressed their deep grief online over the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, as the incident has received more than 1.8 billion views and 670,000 discussions on Sina Weibo. Many Chinese mourned the tragedy, and the hashtag #NotreDamefire topped the hot topic list.



同样，还有不少网友po出自己与巴黎圣母院的合影，回忆自己与这座地标建筑的缘分。

Tens of thousands of Chinese netizens mourned the loss with a hashtag “Me and the Notre Dame in Paris.” Many reminisced about their first time seeing the landmark in the French capital and grieved over the damage done to large parts of the historic monument.



而没去过的人就只好遗憾一番，恐怕再也没有机会亲眼见到巴黎圣母院原本的模样。

1860年第二次鸦片战争期间，英法联军绕经北京城东北郊直扑圆明园，纵火焚烧3天3夜。这一场大火，让藏有无数艺术历史珍宝的“万园之园”——圆明园付之一炬。

The Old Summer Palace in Beijing, a royal garden of the Qing Dynasty, was known for its extensive collection of architecture and numerous art and historical treasures. But it was burned and ransacked by British and French troops while the Anglo-French expedition force invaded China during the Second Opium War in 1860.

所以，就在社交媒体一连串惋惜、哀叹的表达声中，有一些不一样的声音却多了起来。有网友表示，法国巴黎圣母院火灾让人联想到被英法联军焚毁的圆明园，还有人对巴黎圣母院的焚毁幸灾乐祸。

However, a small group of Chinese netizens gloated over the Notre Dame tragedy and they believe France is paying for what it did to the Old Summer Palace.





对此，圆明园官方微博则在16日下午发布文章《文明 不能承受之殇》，衷心祈愿文物都能够远离灾难，代代传承。
 


央视新闻评论认为，圆明园和巴黎圣母院，两起事件并不相同：

“圆明园毁于战乱和野蛮，是历史的伤痕；而巴黎圣母院此次火灾事故是和平时期由消防安全造成的遗憾。两者的相同之处恐怕只因为它们都是世界人类文明的重要组成部分，是人类文明史上的奇迹，它们的消失同样是全人类的损失。”
 


而网络上“那些拿因果报应来说事的人，其实不过是狭隘的民族主义在作怪……文明需要人们铭记，历史也需要人们铭记，不能用某些幌子来遮盖历史，但也不应该打着历史的名义发泄自己的情绪。牢记历史并不等于延续仇恨，而是为了更好前行。爱国没有错，但请保持理智。”

中国文物学会会员刘征就认为，希望这样的悲剧能给社会敲响警钟，更加珍惜爱护我们自己的珍贵文物遗产。

"Hopefully this tragedy will also ring a bell for Chinese society to better cherish our own treasures and heritage," said Liu Zheng, a member of the China Cultural Relics Academy.
