哈里和梅根的宝宝还没出生，这件事儿就让大家操碎了心！

自从去年英国王妃梅根宣布怀孕以来，这位即将到来的王室宝宝就赚足了媒体焦点。不过最近，围观群众们也发现，哈里和梅根其实要为宝宝操心不少事儿呢。

将于几周后跟大家见面的王室宝宝，在一出生之后就要向美国缴税了……

British Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's baby will become liable for taxes in the United States as soon as it's born, which is expected to be in the next few weeks.

是的，你没看错，是美国——因为梅根的原因，这位王室宝宝一出生就获得了美国国籍。

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's first child will automatically become a dual-US citizen because of their mum's American birth.



据CNN报道，正是由于美国国籍，这位英国王位的第七位顺位继承人有义务向美国纳税。

That's because as US citizens, both Meghan and her baby — who will be seventh in line to the British throne — will be liable to pay US taxes, which could potentially open up the notoriously private royal accounts to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

"The United States has — unique among nations — a citizenship-based taxation (system), so as long as Meghan is a citizen of the United States she is taxed," explained David Treitel, the founder of American Tax Returns Ltd., which provides taxation advice to US expats.



“因为母亲是美国公民，所以即将在未来几周出生的婴儿，不论是小男孩或者小女孩，都将自动成为美国公民。”

"The baby is being born to a United States citizen and that baby, little boy or girl, who comes along in the next few weeks, will automatically be a citizen of the United States simply because her mother is," Treitel told CNN. 

不过，这样问题也就来了！

“因为英国王室中从没有美国籍成员的先例，所以也没有人面对过这样的局面！”

"There is no other precedent of anybody else in the Royal Family who's been American. So nobody else has ever faced this circumstance before."

按照相关规定，梅根所获得的很多礼物、首饰，乃至刚刚装修好的小别墅都要申报上税。如果把礼物转卖，也要为增值部分缴税。


 
对梅根而言，如果不想给美国缴税的唯一办法，就是放弃美国国籍，然后成为英国公民。不过尽管如此，王室宝宝也有义务给美国缴税直到18岁。

The only way for Meghan to avoid paying US taxes would be to renounce her US citizenship once she becomes a British citizen. However, even if she does so, the couple's baby will still be liable for US taxes until the age of 18.

肯辛顿宫方面并未评论此事，所以只能等孩子出生后才能知道具体的影响。

Kensington Palace has not commented on the story so it remains to be seen to see precisely how it will impact on the new royal arrival.

所以，英国王室都姓啥？

1960年，女王和丈夫爱丁堡公爵菲利普决定，王室子女中那些不带着陛下、公主或王子头衔的后代，都使用蒙巴顿-温莎这一姓氏。

In 1960, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh decided that their descendants except for those with the style of Royal Highness and the title Prince or Princess would use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

当然，我们也知道，按照传统，他/她还可以用父亲的领土头衔作姓氏。哈里实际上是威尔士王子，上学的时候名字叫哈里•威尔士，军中服役时称作威尔士上尉。所以，小宝宝可以用Sussex作为姓（哈里也是萨塞克斯公爵）。

There is a family trend of using the father’s territorial designation as a last name when needed. Because his father is the Prince of Wales, Prince Harry was Harry Wales at school and Captain Wales in the military. Following this tradition, the baby could use “Sussex” as a surname.
